Amos House
Amos House recently served the Bozeman homeless community with temporary shelter, showers, laundry facilities, and meal services. Amos House closed in August 2011 and will re-open in January 2012 with a new mission.
HRDC’s Home to Stay Program and Gallatin Valley Food Bank are teaming up to transform Amos House into a commercial kitchen/transitional housing facility. The Food Bank plans to relocate its commerical kitchen functions to Amos House to free up needed warehouse space and to expand into rescuing prepared foods from the community to be reused for congregate meal services off site. The Home to Stay Program will utilize the facility to provide interim housing to male and female individuals currently experiencing homelessness. Interim housing will provide short-term stays for community members experiencing a brief period of homelessness while they work with the homeless coordinator to put together a plan to return to permanent, stable housing. Tenants will gain a sense of community and work experience as they share in the kitchen and garden responsibilities.
The Food Bank will prepare foods for its Summer Lunch Program on site during the summer months and work to expand its gleaned food market to include prepared foods from local restaurants, bakeries, etc. Gleaned foods will be transformed into congregate meals. The Food Bank is currently seeking partners for locations, volunteers, and groups to commit to serving the meals on a regular basis.
Amos House was constructed by the community, for the community, and HRDC intends to continue that vision of community.
